Checking the raw material suitability of pigments and fillers

fillers and pigmentswhich are used in aqueous formulations have different surface properties, especially when they are functionalized. Depending on the pH value, they are positive, negative or uncharged. The surface charges of the pigment and filler systems must harmonize with each other in order to create excellent product properties. In this case, this means that surface charges in the same direction can be beneficial in order to achieve a homogeneous distribution of the pigment-filler mixtures in the matrix, since electrostatic repulsion of the particles counteracts agglomeration.
After checking the basic suitability of the various components as a mixture, we determine the appropriate pH value window in which the surface charge in the same direction is present. This procedure is part of the formulation optimization.
