Testing raw material suitability Pigments, Fillers and Additives
Fillers and pigments which are used in aqueous formulations have different surface properties, especially when they are functionalized. Depending on the pH value, they are positive, negative or uncharged. The surface charges of the pigment and filler systems must harmonize with one another in order to produce excellent product properties. In this case, this means that surface charges in the same direction can be beneficial in order to achieve a homogeneous distribution of the pigment-filler mixtures in the matrix, since electrostatic repulsion of the particles counteracts agglomeration.
After checking the basic suitability of the various components as a mixture, we determine the suitable pH value window in which the surface charge in the same direction is present. This procedure is part of the formulation optimization.
